TEXTSPEAK
In today’s modern world, there are many different ways in which we can communicate with each other. Some of them are the written ones,in which a lot of people, use while other prefer textspeak. But is it good for todays towards society?
There are many advantages to textspeak.Firstly,it is a convenient way,in which we can communicate. For instance,if someone wants to answer someone quickly, this way will cost him less time and ofcourse it takes up lace space.Secondly, it’s fun and creative using it.For example,if people chat with their friends, they can invent new abbreviations, which will be a lot of fun.
On the other hand, there are also a number of drawbacks. In the first place, textspeak excludes and confuses people. For example,if a person sends a mesage to an elderly man and uses this way to an older man, he won’t understand, what transmitter reffers to.Furthermore, textspeak promotes missspeling. For instance,if a student writes a writing by using it,it will affect his grades, because his teachers won’t understand what he means. So it affects schoolwork.
In conclusion, there are both good and bad points to textspeak. As far as I am concerned,it is not a good idea, because if text doesn’t make sense, then my meaning is lost.
Describing an event
Dear Mark,
Thanks for your letter. One of the most famous annual events in my country is the Patras Carnival. The Patras Carnival, Patrino karnavali is the largest event of it’s kind in Greece. The events begin on 17 January and last up to Clean Monday. It’s an exciting event that includes parades, hidden treasure hunt and the children’s carnival.
Preparations for the event start months before. The organisers and the people who are going to participate, make their costumes or buy them from a shop. The Patras Carnival is mainly run by volunteers, ususally local people, who help to set up the maypole and organise transport for the parade.
During the carnival, there are lot of things to do. People dance together different carnival dances and have fun. They also enjoy the traditional food and drinks and all of the citizens and tourists show their costumes they have made. Many of the festival-goers stay until midnight.
Overall, going to the Patras Carnival it’s a truly unforgettable experience. If you ever get the chance to go, don’t miss it!
Best wishes,
Katerina

Recommending a place
Dear Jane,
It’s great to hear from you. The place I’d recommend for someone to visit in my country is Mount Parnassus. Mount Parnassus is a mountain in central Greece that towers above Delphi. It’s a truly beautiful place with spectacular scenery and many places to visit.
There, you can see the scenic view of the countryside. There are huge forests, beautiful alleys and landscapes. Also, the mountain is the location of historical, archaeological and other cultures sites, such us Delphi where you can visit.
There are plenty of fun activities to do. You can go hiking in the three warm seasons. In winter, you can go skiing in Parnassos Ski Resort. And afcourse, you can have a hot chocolate or coffee at the small, traditional cafes in the area.
All in all, a visit to Mount Parnasus is a must for anyone who’s never been there. It’s a wonderful place with amazing scenery and lots of things to do. Write back.
Yours,
Katerina

The trip of my life
1st January in 2019-2020 was a day I had been looking forward to for a long time. I was both nervous and excited because for the first time in my life I would travel abroad, more specifically, to Prague to celebrate New Year’s Eve, with my family.
We arrived in the Czech Republic a day before to spend some time exploring the town. We went shopping and bought different kind of drinks and lentils which is a dish often served at midnight on New Year’s Eve, in Prague. We had done all the necessary preparations and we were ready for that special day!
So, at exactly 12:00 a.m., all the citizens, in the middle of the city centre, let off the fireworks up in the sky. Many kids were running in the streets with a big smile on their faces, while christmas carols were being sung by small groups of women and men. The atmosphere was beautiful and all the people were happy.
A feeling of excitement and happiness stayed with me throughout the day. I will always remember this life event of mine, because it made me feel enthusiasm. But the most important thing for me is, that I met new people and I came so close to them, that we still keep in contact!
The hidden treasures of Egypt
Author:
Summary:
This book talks about artifacts that have been discovered in Ancient Egypt. Dr. Zahi Hawass, Egypt’s most well known archeologist, explains the idea behind the exhibition that is displayed in the Cairo Museum. What he mentioned was the amazing number of artefacts found, resulting in 80,000 objects hidden away beneath the cool marble floors of the exhibition. The book also shows a lot of ancient artefacts for artificial toes to ivory palettes.
New Words: ivory palettes
Favourite part of the book:
My favourite part of the book is when the display of the first plastic surgery case is shown. Basically what it shows is an artificial toe that was sawn into a person’s foot making it more easy for them to walk. What is also interesting is that they were buried with it which means that they believed that it would help them walk in the afterlife.
