It was a cold winter day and it was snowing heavily outside the cottage.Megan and Mark were wrapped in their blankets and wearing their hats.Grandma

Mara was telling them stories ( The farmer and the snake ).Every winter,Fred the farmer needed a lot of firewood to keep his family worm. One cold winter morning he decided to go to the forest and cut some wood for their fireplace. It was a very  heavy winter,so there was a lot of snow everywhere.Fred had to return with a lot of wood or his family would freeze. He put on his thick coat with the fur hood and his boots.Fred walked quickly into the snowy forest to find a tree to cut down.Fred started swinging his axe.A clump of snow  fell from the tree as he was chopping it.Fred was covered with snow but he kept swinging. On his way home,he saw a snake slithering in the snow.”But if I help you,you have to promise not to bite me.” “Sure,” said the snake. The farmer was on his way to his cottage with the bundle of wood on one shoulder, the axe i his other and the snake in his pocket. He wanted to put down the heavy bundle,so he walked fast. The farmer learned a valuable lesson that day.Even if your life depends on it,you can’t go against your nature.
